I referred to one as lossy and the other as non-lossy.
These are document files that can contain images, text and whatever in
various forms so they are neither lossy or non-lossy but support both.
Somewhere in the compression settings for PDF it seems to shift from
vector to image compression and I think the form of image compression
is more lossy than fractals or wavelets for the size. If you were
working from a publishing program where the text and block graphics
were over a photo image the text could remain perfect even if the
photos weren't.
When working from a scan Acrobat has to guess as to content.
Brought to you by the 6809, the 6803 and their cousins!
