I think the ones who want to have a chance to respond to every bid are
gaming the system.
Tim's Ebay philosophy:
"Bid the maximum you are willing to pay for an item. If you do that
you'll never loose because the other guy paid too much."
And just because I do that at the last possible moment doesn't mean I
need to be lumped together with spammers and child pornographers.
I would like to suggest that back and forth bidding wars do not increase
the final price. Everybody has their maximum. People drop out as soon as
that maximum is surpassed.
I use sniping to avoid bidding wars entirely.
