I like all the ST series, except for Voyager and a few of the movies
(ST:TMP, ST:V, ST:Nemesis). My favorite series is DS-9, which is being
continued in the novels.
Maybe it's underdeveloped appreciation for real sci-fi, who knows ;-)
The only authors I've read are Heinlein, Niven, Niven/Pournelle,
Herbert, Greg Bear, and OSC.
I know Trek isn't hard sci-fi, but it's enjoyable. I like the new BSG,
but not as a replacement for Trek, I'm sad that Enterprise is going off
the air, since they had really started to turn it around this season.
