Boisy, I'm fairly sure that the format counter shows the number of sides
formatted. It is easily demonstrated by formatting a 40DD floppy. Format
reports 0x4F (79), which means 0 to 79, a total of 80 sides...
Since format reports the number of sides formatted, I think it should report
a 24 bit number, since the IT.CYL is a 16 bit value and IT.SID is an 8 bit
value. This is probably why the format I tried with auto size ON failed.
I've calculated by hand that there would be over 2F000 sides, which is
greated than 16 bits. Of course, I'm only assuming that's what's going on
with format, since I don't have the source code for it.
