One measure of how old your CD-ROM drive is, is its "X" number. If it's less
than 12X, it may be too old to read CD-R and CD-R/W disks.
FWIW, music CD-Rs often won't play in older CD players, either. The
light/dark ratio between 0 spots and 1 spots is less in the writable media.
Anyway, you'll love having a DC-R/W drive, or even DVD read. My system is
only a 433 MHz Celeron, and it can play DVD movies (running right on the edge).
