I have my CoCo running on a Nec Multisyc XV15 SVGA monitor using the XRGB-2
Plus device.
Roy Justus modified and created a special cable for me to use this device
with my CoCo and did an excellent job.
First off, the CoCo looks OUTSTANDING. It is every bit as good as looking at
a CoCo screen in an emulator like MESS. The 80 character screens are that
pretty looking. Colors are vivid and pleasant. I have never seen a CoCo
display so nice, but then again I have a CM-8 ;-)
I remember reading about concern as to how upscaling the coco display to vga
resolution would make things look blocky. You do not notice any of this with
the XRGB-2 Plus. The display looks perfectly normal, except much much
sharper.
Also, you can use the video out of the coco with this device and switch
modes to get artifact colors in the older games and things like that.
Something that was very important to me, as a coco gamer. The video mode
looks "OK". 80 column text is slightly better than a regular TV display.
However, you do notice the upscanning in this mode. It doesn't not compare
to the RGB input, but like I said, when you need artifact colors, it is
perfectly functional / usable.
Within the next week, I hope to be able to snap some pictures of the screen
and the device / setup I have going. With this I'll make a small web page
describing the whole thing, including the great many options the XRGB-2 Plus
has to enhance the display.
