You need to make sure you kill everything on level 1 before going to 2. 
Then, you want to find a spider and just let it hit you. Then you can 
wait for creatures to line up and do hit and hide behind the spider 
attacks to deal with the knights. Note you should put out your torch 
before you settle in to let the creatures line up. Kill everything 
before you go on.

Then, you can do the same on level 3 (find a weak creature to hide 
behind) and let critters line up. Kill everything before you go after 
the image.

Then, you too can have the excitement of reaching level 4 with only the 
torch you are burning and the two objects you were carrying and landing 
right in front of one of the strongest creatures on the level. :)

Personally, I just haven't had the time to fire up the game and do a few 
extras of levels 1 and 2 before going on to three (and by extension 4). 
(Then you can have the excitement of the really hard creatures while you 
still have resources to fight them.)
