It was easy to find LED signs were available back then that were loaded 
by a standard serial port.

It would have been trivial to program a COCO to load them.  There were 
many options available in the signs as to what capabilities they could 
have.  The main variants was the ability to store multiple messages, and 
special effects to switch between stored messages.

And it was also possible that someone built their own version.
