The ideal method is to use a flyback/yoke checker
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3088910524)
or you have to try other methods. Basically, you can apply a square
wave, say, to the coil with a capacitor in parallel and look at the
waveform on an oscilloscope. You do need some experience to 'read'
the results. If you have access to an inductance checker you can use
that also.
None of these methods probably help you much, since most folk don't
have these things. I'd be inclined to ask your local Radio Shack
repair centre or any local computer monitor or tv repair shop to
check the thing out for you. They may well have the right equipment.
